Bigfoot Stompbox Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is Bigfoot Stompbox?

Bigfoot Stompbox is a musical instrument crafted in the main from salvaged timber. It is designed to reproduce the sound of a kick drum with best results being obtained when Bigfoot Stompbox is connected to an amplifier or PA system that has a good bass response. Bigfoot models vary in size, shape and wood types.

2) How do I use it?

Depending on the model, Bigfoot Stompbox can be played using full foot, heel and toe, or toe only stomping. You can be either standing or sitting, with or without footwear.

3) Does Bigfoot Stompbox need power or batteries?

No. Our 'in-house' Monster pickup is a high output passive device which does not require power or external EQ. It plugs directly into your PA or Amplifier via a standard instrument cable. All current models use a version of the Bigfoot designed 'monster' pickup.

4) What are the recommended equaliser settings on my amplifier or PA?

A flat EQ produces a focused attack with a big fat 'kick' sound much like a beater hitting a bass drum. For a rounder, smoother sound, try an EQ cut around 1KHz and a slight bass boost. Bigfoot models vary in size and shape and PAs vary in power and quality. EQ settings are therefore more a matter of personal preference. From our experience, all Bigfoot models should only require minimal EQ.

5) Why does Bigfoot Stompbox cost more than some other brands?

Bigfoot Stompbox is made from salvaged woods which are more expensive than plantation timber. This is good for the environment. As an added bonus, salvaged timbers are almost always mature and stable and quite often very beautiful. In addition, we use highly reliable components and have spent years developing Bigfoot's own 'monster' pickup.

6) Do different woods affect the bigfoot sound?

Different woods may have a very minor affect on tone, with the harder timbers possibly having a darker but not deeper tone. It is also possible for three stompies made from the same timber, to vary in tone just as much as if they were made from three different timbers.

7) Where can I get one?

If you are in Australia you will find many music shops stocking Bigfoot courtesy of the National Distributor, Jet Music International. If you live outside Australia or can't source a Bigfoot Stompbox locally, then you should contact Peter Woolnough at the Bigfoot Stompbox workshop.
